The Dark Lands

The Dark Lands.

  • The Dark Lands came into existence of about 400 years ago.  Very little is known about the land, landscape, and history.  But is believed to be known is when the Great Chasm opened is when the evil of the Dark Lords were born.  It is also believed that in this belly of evil, the continuous evil minions of the Dark Lords are bred for destruction and domination of Atransta.  The Dark Lords have been unable to claim this whole land as of yet, but that may soon change. (cue evil music).
  • The land from under which they came has been destroyed and burned down.  The people that once lived in the area were either capture or killed.  They have been breeding the captors as slaves, and they also find it amusing to kill them for sport.  The evil is constantly trying to take over the rest of the world but the Kingdom of Silverton has been successfully repelling them for hundreds of years.
  • Before Garnath and his power were imprisoned, he prompted the creation of his minor Dark Lords.  These 12 are the most powerful and evil of his Dark Lords.     Residing in differing areas of the Dark Lands, they each hold a steady strong hand in the Dark Land control.
  • With the overall landscape and broken down cities and towns throughout the land, there is always a feeling of hopelessness.  Constant patrols from the Dark Lords minions makes this whole land look like a large slave encampment.  And at times, it even seems like the sun never actually shines, with constant overcast and almost permanent darkness.
  • Only one real city actually stands, the rest have been almost destroyed.  Ruins litter the landscape.  Goblins and orcs reign free over the land and the Death Knights constantly patrol, enslave, and pillage any remnants of normalcy.  Extreme poverty persists the barren rocky land.  Deep canyons and high mountains predominate.  Most flora has been destroyed.  A very barren and sad region.

  • A.    Castle Kardorn.
    • The great Castle Kardorn is the center of the evil that is the Dark Lords.  When the great earthquake occurred and the chasm opened, this castle was built around it to house this evil.  This castle is exceptionally large, dark, and foreboding.  This is the primary residence of Sharnath in his imprisoned state.  With walls over 50 feet thick and and over 200 feet tall, it is quite an impressive display.   Sitting, what is believed, to be in the center of the Dark Lands, it is quite impossible to lay siege upon this fortress.  A sense of despair, like the rest of the Dark Lands seems to radiate from this place.  This is the main meeting place of the 12 Dark Lords.  They are as follows:  (All Dark Lords classes except prestige classes).
  • Tarashhe Sinz.
    • Considered to be first in command.
    • Human male.
    • Only concern is that of raising Garnath.

  • All Dark Lords reside in their own area until beckoned by Tarashhe to convene at Castle Kardorn.  Like immature children, at times they will bicker, argue and fight.  But Tarashhe seems to be the glue that holds them in check.  Some secretly want all the power for themselves, but none would ever conspire with the others for fear of being outed.
  • Some of the most notable elite soldier types for the Dark Lords:  Death Knights, Dire Worg Riders, Infantry of Trolls, Slicerats, Mortal Fiends, Hailers, Wrenchers, and the Dark Riders.
  • Garnath.
    • The Dark Overlord.  The total embodiment of evil and source from all the Dark Lord's power.  Centuries ago, Garnath was defeated and was imprisoned in a crystal that is kept at Kardorn.  His power was separated into 8 different parts.  These parts were then spread throughout Atransta.  They are also believed that the power slices were placed into various objects.  Garnath has ordered his minions to recapture his power.  When his power is recaptured he will then able to free himself from his prison and take control over the rest of Atransta.  As of now, Garnath may only communicate with Tarashhe Sinz in his prisoned state.

  • B.   City of Cael.
    • This is the largest intact city in the Dark Lands.  One reason this city is able to survive is that it is very close to the crossroads.  Both sides have been known to use the city as a "rest area".  At night it is probably the most dangerous of any city.  Half the city is in practical ruin while the other half is in moderate shape.  This is a place with a large amount of espionage happening at both ends.  With its desirable location it has actually become an independent city-sate where both sides may use it for their advantage.  But in total reality, the Dark Lords allow this city to thrive on its own, for their own purposes.
  • Night's Edge.
    • Assassins' guild.
  • Bladed Moon.
    • Thieves' guild.
  • Death Knights are the city's police.
    • These Death Knights really don't do much.
  • The Papels.
    • This group assists anyone trying to get into Silverton.
  • The bars and taverns are rowdy and dark.
  • Heavy spy network….on both sides.
